Exterior Painting in Vallejo, CA
Siding, trim and doors prepped and painted for sun, salt air and rain.
What to know about exterior painting
An exterior paint job is a shield for your house. It keeps water out of the siding and trim, and it determines how your home looks from the street. The paint you see is the last part, and the prep is what makes it last.
We prepare exteriors by cleaning, scraping, sanding, caulking and priming bare wood before painting. Fresh siding gets painted so that cut edges are sealed, and old siding gets repaired where it is soft. The gray lap siding in our photos shows the finished result of that sequence.
Bay-area exteriors face salt air, sun and rain, and each of these wears on paint in a different way. South and west walls fade fastest, while shaded sides can grow mildew that needs cleaning before painting.
Timing matters outdoors. Paint needs a dry surface and moderate temperatures to cure properly, which is why exterior work here is best planned for the dry months, with a few spare days built in for weather. On shaded sides of a house we also treat mildew before painting, because paint applied over it will not stay bonded.

Signs your exterior needs paint
- Peeling or cracking paint, especially on trim and sills.
- Chalky residue when you rub the siding.
- Fading, particularly on sun-facing walls.
- Bare wood or open caulk joints.
- New siding, windows or trim that has not been painted.

Prime and paint
Bare spots are primed, then paint is applied in coats suited to the weather.
Trim and finish
Trim, doors and details are finished and the site is cleaned.

Number of colors and details
Multiple colors and trim details add time.
Weather windows
Painting needs dry conditions, which affects scheduling.

Exterior Painting FAQs
How often should I repaint the exterior?
It depends on the paint, the exposure and the prep. Sun-facing sides usually need attention first.
Can you paint in winter?
We paint when conditions allow: dry surfaces and temperatures in the paint maker's range. We schedule around the weather.
Do you repair rotten wood before painting?
Yes. Painting over rot only hides it for a short time.
Do you paint new siding?
Yes. See our siding installation page.
Can you paint hillside homes?
Yes, with scaffolding or lifts set up for the slope.
